Terms

The agreement, in plain words

Who ParentProof is for, what we promise, what we do not, and how either of us can walk away.

What you're agreeing to

By creating an account or installing ParentProof you accept these terms. The product keeps changing: screens move and capabilities are added. When a change affects what you can rely on, we say so rather than let you find out on the device.

What it's for

ParentProof is built for a parent or legal guardian to supervise a device belonging to their own minor child, with the authority to do so where they live. That's the whole use case this product is designed, tested, and written for.

The only protected kids devices are compatible Android tablets and phones. A Windows PC or Mac may run the setup app but is not supervised or protected itself. A child's iPhone or iPad cannot be protected, on any plan. Your own phone or computer can still run the Parent Control Panel.

  • Not for supervising an adult, a spouse, an employee, or anyone else without their knowledge and legal consent.
  • Not for a device you don't have the authority to manage.
  • Not for anything your local law treats as covert surveillance of another person.

You're responsible for knowing what your own jurisdiction requires before you set a device up. We build the tool; we can't be the one who knows your local law for you.

Who holds the account: you're 18 or over, and you're the parent

Creating an account is you telling us two things about yourself. That you are 18 or older, and that you are the parent or legal guardian of the child whose device you are setting up. Both have to be true. If either one isn't, this isn't the product for you and you shouldn't create the account.

Those two sentences are the whole of it. There's no verification step behind them, no document to upload, and no check we run quietly in the background — we take you at your word, and the word is the thing you're giving us here.

We do not ask for a birthday or exact age

A child in ParentProof is a name you chose and the settings you set. Child setup asks for one broad age range, and ParentProof will not add your first child without one. The range is used to suggest a starting app list, and it is kept: with the child’s setup record, and in the child’s ParentProof Play profile, which is created from it with a broad band — Under 8, 8–12, 13–15 or 16–17 — so games can later choose a suitable experience. The privacy policy says where it is kept and for how long. Nothing tries to infer an age from what a child does.

The band is a parent’s choice, not age verification. Where a law or app store draws a line at an age, the selection rests on what you told us above — on your word as the adult who set this up — and not on a document check or conclusion ParentProof made about your child.

This is the same answer we give the app stores' age questions. If it changes, this page changes with it and we say what moved.

What we do not promise

No uptime guarantee

The service can go down, get slow, or need a restart. A device keeps enforcing the rules it already has through an outage — what you lose is the ability to change them until it is back.

No warranty

The software is provided as-is, without a warranty of any kind, express or implied — including fitness for a particular purpose. Do not rely on it as your only safeguard for anything safety-critical.

Limited liability

To the extent the law allows it, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss from using ParentProof. Where local law gives you rights this paragraph cannot waive, those rights stand.

Billing and consent

Current prices and billing periods appear on the pricing page. Stripe hosts checkout, and you see the amount and billing period before confirming payment — a pre-ticked box is not consent.

Buying a ParentProof tablet

  • A tablet is bought from your signed-in account, and only the household owner can buy one. The price is shown before you pay. Stripe hosts the payment page and calculates any sales tax from the shipping address you give it there. We ship only to addresses in Canada.
  • Opening checkout holds a tablet for you while the payment page is open, which is about half an hour. If you do not pay, the page closes, the tablet goes back on sale, and nothing is charged. If a tablet is sold out, checkout says so before any payment page opens. If we ever take a payment we cannot fill, we owe you that money back and refund it.
  • We pack and post orders by hand. Your order page shows each step once it has happened (paid, preparing, shipped with the carrier and tracking number, delivered). We do not promise a delivery date.
  • Until your order ships you can cancel it from your order page, and we ask Stripe to return the full amount to the card that paid; the page says “Refunded” once Stripe confirms the money has gone back. After it ships, contact Support about a return.
  • If the payment is disputed with your card issuer, the order is held and not shipped while the dispute is open, and is not shipped at all if the dispute ends with the money returned to you. A dispute about a tablet changes nothing else about your account or plan.
  • The “No warranty” paragraph above is about the ParentProof software. This page does not set out a return window or a warranty for the tablet itself; where the law where you live gives you rights as a buyer, those rights stand. What we keep about an order, and for how long, is on the privacy page.

What we ask of you

  • Don't try to break, resell, or redistribute the software, or reverse-engineer it to build a competing product.
  • Don't use the account, pairing codes, or device tokens for anything other than setting up your own household's devices.
  • Tell us when something breaks, in your own words — see Support.

Ending it

  • You can cancel and delete your account at any time — see Privacy for what that removes.
  • We can end your access for a breach of these terms, or if we stop offering the service, and will tell you when we do.
  • Ending the agreement does not undo anything either side already did in good faith while it was running.
